OBA OF BENIN CORONATION: Ekassa spiritual dance commences
The Ogbelaka and Eguadase groups have commenced the Ekassa spiritual dance as the October 20 date for the coronation of the new Oba of Benin draw near.

According to Benin tradition, the Ekassa dance will be held daily until after the coronation of the Crown Prince. It is one of the many activities that will usher the Crown Prince, Ehenden Erediauwa, to the throne of the Oba.

The dance is performed by only males that have undergone spiritual cleansing.

The dance moved through streets in Benin City to Uzama Palace where the Crown Prince is carrying out coronation rites and rituals for seven days.

Chief Obawonyi of Ogbelaka and Chief Robert Uhuoba, while speaking about the significance of the dance, noted that it was imperative that the dance is carried out after the death of an Oba and when a new one is about to ascend the throne.

According tp Chief Uhuoba, it is a privilege of a lifetime to participate in the Ekassa dance
