OBA OF CORONATION: Crown Prince picks name as Edo govt declares holiday

The crown prince of Benin Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Eheneden Erediauwa, on Tuesday, picked the name he would bear as the Oba of Benin.

Prince Erediauwa picked the name when he visited Use community in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.

The name was however not made public, as sources say it would be announced on Thursday during the coronation.

The Crown Prince also played the game of pebbles, Akhue, as part of the traditional rites ahead of his coronation on Thursday.

Eheneden arrived Use at about 4pm in the company of his royal entourage and was received with a rousing welcome from a large crowd that gathered to welcome him.

He proceeded to the palace with the Edigin N’Use, Ekpen Kelvin Edigin.

The Crown Prince latter proceeded to Ugbo shrine where he made supplications to the gods.

In preparation for the coronation, the Edo State Government has declared Thursday a public holiday.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, adding that the public holiday was declared in honour of the crown prince.

According to the statement, the holiday would give residents of the state the opportunity to witness the coronation and ensure a hitch-free exercise.
