The new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, officially moved into the office on Monday.

Meranda was accompanied by members of the Assembly to the complex in a show of solidarity.

This development followed the impeachment of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, for alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office on January 13.

Obasa had on Saturday described his impeachment as unconstitutional and laid claim to the office.

However, the former speaker was conspicuously absent from the Assembly on Monday with tight security on ground to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

At the Assembly complex, members were seen taking pictures with the speaker, while the acting Clerk equally joined in the celebrations.
