Obasanjo denies meeting with Osinbajo, demands apology, retraction from AIT

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has denied the claim that he had a meeting with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

He therefore called on the African Independent Television (AIT) to retract a picture which purportedly showed him with Osinbajo and Amaechi at his home in Ota, Ogun State during the supposed meeting.

The photo which AIT showed on its station’s social media segment, Kaakaki Social, was said to have been sent from a Tweeter account “belonging” to the former President.

But in a statement through his medial aide on Thursday, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo said that the TV station should apologise to him as well as to Osinbajo for the “embarrassment the development might have caused him.”

Expressing dismay over the station’s failure to verify the “fake Twitter Account” before airing it on the station, he said:

“It is a fact that severally, the former President has dissociated himself from owning any social media account. Therefore, it is highly disappointing that such sensitive Twitter post would be allowed to go on air without verification by the African Independent Television (AIT).”

Osinbajo had earlier denied having a meeting with Obasanjo and Amaechi in Ota. According to him, he only met Obasanjo accidentally at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.

Reports had claimed that a meeting took place in Ota last Tuesday, hours before Obasanjo arrived Abuja for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s book launch.
