Obasanjo’s new-found friendship with Ndigbo ‘dangerous’, MASSOB warns

Ijaw Union wants Obasanjo probed over Malabu oil scam

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) doubts the sincerity of purpose behind the recent romance between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and some Igbo political leaders.

MASSOB has, therefore, called on Ndigbo, especially the political class to be careful in their dealings with the former President, cautioning that friendship with Obasanjo, who according to them hated Igbo people so much, could be signalling evil.

Obasanjo was recently in Enugu State during a one day South-East Economic and Security Summit held in the state. President Muhammadu Buhari was expected at the same event but he never showed up nor sent any representative.

While presenting a speech at the summit Obasanjo had said that Igbo would not achieve much with continued individualism and lack of cohesion amongst them, adding that they seem to have forgotten their spirit of enterprise and communal efforts which stood them apart from other ethnic groups in the country.

According to Obasanjo, Igbo people are unique and must deploy their uniqueness to their advantage to negotiate the actualisation of their aspirations.

However, fearing sinister motive in his new found love with the people of the zone, MASSOB in a statement it released through its leader Uchenna Madu, argued that the former president’s “current political antics, romance and friendship in Igboland is suspect and dangerous to the political survival of Ndigbo in Nigeria.”

The statement read in part, “During his eight years tenure as Nigerian President, he consciously created political problems for Ndigbo. He initiated several political frustrations against Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Imo states during the tenures of Orji Uzo Kalu, Chinwoke Mbadinuju and Chimaraoke Nnamani.

“Obasanjo denied Igboland infrastructural development, he politically witch hunted our people. He also mesmerised Ndigbo by changing Igbo senators five times in office of Senate president.”

Also citing that Obasanjo never visited nor showed concern for the late Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu as Igbo leader, MASSOB accused him of surreptitiously working through some disgruntled Igbo politicians to weaken the developing cohesion among Igbo leaders.

It therefore cautioned Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi states governors to stop celebrating and inviting Obasanjo to commission projects in their states.

“Obasanjo denied Igboland infrastructural development, he politically witch hunted our people. He also mesmerised Ndigbo by changing Igbo senators five times in office of Senate president.”

This is not realistic. We were all in this county, Obasanjo did no such things!

      Thank you uchendu
I wonder when he did all they alleged he did. Because I have been following Nigeria politics for long and I find no record of that.

All I know is that obj meant well for the Igbos. If Igbos can follow his advice especially spirit of unity, trust and cohesion to reign among them, then they can even be the president of this nation again.

Who told you we have no unity amongst us. It is you the yorubas that need to unify yourselves because you are the incoherent people.

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra are all ingrates, when Obasanjo was the president of Nigeria, he chose the Igbos ahead of his own people, no president in the history of Nigeria has done what Obasanjo did, he made sure the igbos were well represented in his cabinet, he put them in key posts without minding what the yorubas think of him, Yar’Adua, Jonathan, even Buhari chose their people ahead of other tribes. Obasanjo has always been a supporter of the Igbos, he has established the relationship before now, so if Obasanjo and Ndigbo are romancing, the MASSOB should leave them to make kiss and make love because the MASSOB is the enemy of Nigeria as a whole

All i know is, Obasanjo will never make friend with anyone if he doesn’t have any motif.. But, I can’t ascertain if his motif is positive or negative, but i think Obasanjo is harmless to the Igbos

You know nothing about obj. Obj makes friends with people without motives behind it. His friendship with the igbos has been for long so I don’t know why we are bringing issues out of this.

We should not forget that all through Obj reign as president, the Senate presidents were igbos. Major ministers were igbos and so many other things he allowed for igbos to have access to. So we should not see obj as evil man.
