Obaseki hails Edo Queens after WAFU Champions League final feat
Governor Godwin Obaseki has praised Edo Queens for securing a spot in the final of the WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
The Nigerian champions earned their place in the final with a hard-fought 2-1 win over hosts Inter D’Abidjan on Tuesday.
Emem Essien and Blessing Illivieda scored the goals for Edo Queens, while Adjoua Niamien found the net for Inter D’Abidjan.
“I congratulate Edo Queens for their victory today in Ivory Coast against FC Inter. Our girls dominated the game, showed great skill, and controlled the pace, holding on until the very end,” Obaseki said in a statement.

“They have been exceptional throughout the tournament, remaining unbeaten and now advancing to the finals with strong confidence.
“I celebrate their brilliance and want to remind them that every girl in Edo is proud of their performance.
“As they continue their impressive run in the WAFU Zone B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, we are confident in their determination to win the finals and make a significant impact on the continental stage.”
Edo Queens will compete against Benin Republic’s Ainonvi FC in the final.
Ainonvi secured their spot in the final by defeating Etincelle of Burkina Faso 1-0 in their semi-final match.
The final will take place at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake, on Friday.
