It's official! Asisat Oshoala leaves Arsenal, moves to China

Super Falcons winger and reigning CAF African Women Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, has left English Women’s Super League One club Arsenal Ladies to join Chinese side Dalian Quanjian.’

Although the 22-year old had been pictured in the training session of the Chinese side last week, there had not been an official statement from the striker nor from both clubs until Wednesday.

Arsenal Ladies, in a reaction to Oshoala’s departure on the club’s website, praised the player for her services.

“We will like to thank Asisat for her contributions to Arsenal Ladies during the 2016 season and wish her well in her upcoming move, which is subject to the completion of the player’s registration process.’’

Asisat, who won the BBC’s Women’s Footballer of the Year Award in 2015 before joining Arsenal from Liverpool, will reportedly earn seven-times her Arsenal pay in China.

“Oshoala to earn N7m monthly 1year deal at Chinese side, Dalian Quanjian, almost 7 times more than what she was earning at Arsenal,” a tweet by the chairman of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, MFM FC, Godwin Enakhena.

While in England, she helped the Gunners win the Women’s FA Cup at Wembley in May 2016.

She also played for Nigeria at the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada, and was part of the team that lifted the trophy at the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations that held in Cameroon, last December.
