Official: West Ham name Moyes to succeed Bilic

Former Everton and Manchester United manager, David Moyes, was on Tuesday named as replacement for Slaven Bilic to manage West Ham.

The 54-year-old Scot has been out of work since the end of last season when he resigned as Sunderland manager after the club relegated to the Championship.

His first game in charge of the Hammers will be at Watford in the Premier League after the international break, on November 19.

Speaking to the club’s website, Moyes said he and his new team will have to start off immediately, as they need to lift themselves away from the relegation zone.

“It feels great to be here,” he said. “West Ham is a big club. Wherever you go they are known. I’ve been really fortunate in that I’ve managed some really great clubs, and I have been offered some
other opportunities recently.

“But I wanted a job that would give me a real good chance [of success]. I wanted a big fanbase, a big club, and West Ham fitted the bill.

“I’m really just looking forward to getting started, because we are now in the season and we have to get up-and-running right away to get the job done.”

Moyes added that his immediate “focus” is “purely between now and the end of the season,” and the first thing is to win the next game and build from there. He expressed confidence that the side will be in a “much stronger position before long.”
