Officials reveals cause of school fire that killed many children in Liberia

An investigation conducted by the Liberian National Fire Service has revealed that the raging inferno which claimed the lives of no less than 27 victims (many of them reported to be children) and injured many others in a Koranic school in a township east of Monrovia was caused by “electrical shocks”.

Fire Service Director Alex Dixon told reporters, that they also found a motorcycle parked inside the building “with gasoline in it.”

However, Dixon did not say if it had a role in the fire.

Reports say words of sympathy, financial and material assistance are still pouring in to console the bereaved families even as the Liberian government has promised to rebuild the school.

Recall that the raging inferno broke out exactly three weeks ago in the early hours of the morning when Koranic school students were sleeping in a building near their mosque.

An eyewitness Pastor Emmanuel Herbert who spoke with BBC said that he woke up to sounds of the fire and raised the alarm.

“When I looked through the window, I saw the whole place blazing with fire,” he told the BBC.
