OGUN: Lady passer-by burnt to death in tanker fire

The Ogun State Traffic Complience and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has confirmed the death of an unidentified female passer-by who was burnt to death when tanker conveying petroleum product caught fire in the Lotto area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The crash, which occurred on Saturday, was said to have involved three vehicles – a truck, a petrol-laden tanker and a passenger bus.

According to the Public Relations Officer of TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the accident occurred around 8.03pm.

Akinbiyi further explained that an eyewitness told operatives of the corps that the driver of the fuel-laden tanker lost control while on motion and hit a barrier on the road.

He said the content of the tanker began gushing out and after a while, it caught fire and the two other parked vehicles were burnt in the process.

“Unfortunately, an adult female passer-by in the area got burnt in the process,” Akinbiyi stated, adding that the driver of the tanker managed to escape from the inferno.

He added that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited in the Fakoya private morgue in Sagamu.
