OGUN: Out of 210 contacts traced, two test positive for COVID-19

Two of the 210 people who had contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ogun State have tested positive, the state government said on Thursday.

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, who also revealed that not less than 110 contacts traced to cases of COVID-19 in the state have been discharged.

The commissioner stated this at a press briefing where she gave an update on the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

She said: “Since the announcement of the index case in Nigeria, Ogun state has since recorded nine infections in total.

“In the last 24 hours, we have discharged three and in total, we have discharged six patients. We still have three active cases receiving treatment and care in our facility.

“In addition, we have traced 210 individuals. Of this 210, we have discharged 110. Of the 110 who had finished their monitoring, two of them actually tested positive.”

Coker also revealed that by next week, when the state would have taken possession of another molecular laboratory, the state’s testing capacity will increase to 1,000 per day.

According to her, there will be testing boot installed in high rate vulnerable communities which border Lagos.

“We would encourage people to come forward in the next week to get tested especially during this lockdown.

“Furthermore, the state has also engaged the mobile labs which will be roaming around our communities. We have also scaled up the number of technicians to five,” she said.
