Ohanaeze Ndigbo rally South-east governors to first meeting in 2 years

In what may signal an attempt to create greater cohesion within a seemingly fractured Southeast geo-political zone, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by Nnia Nwodo, has rallied governors of the Igbo-speaking states to their first meeting in two years.

The meeting which held in Enugu on Sunday comes against the background of a recent public altercation between Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and Willie Obiano of Anambra State.

Though details of the meeting are yet to be made public, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo, hailed the new-found spirit aimed at rebuilding and forging a new agenda for the Igbo nation.

Speaking to newsmen Sunday in Enugu, Nwodo said, “I came to congratulate them for their synergy and their new found solidarity and the resurgence of that solidarity.
“I have promised that whatever misgivings they have between them is a storm in the tea cup and is grossly exaggerated and you can see that happening now.”

He added, “The headquarters of Ohaneze is in Enugu and it is only courteous that as the president general, I should come and greet them and brief them about our activities as well as wish them well in their deliberations.

“All five of them are here. Nobody is represented by the deputy. They are in serious deliberation and I am grateful to God that this is happening.”

Nwodo played down the rancour that had kept the governors from meeting saying, “I am infused that within two months of my coming into office they are back on the saddle, united and in total solidarity addressing the problems affecting us as a geographical region.”

Ripples Nigeria gathered that Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi was elected Chairman of the forum at the meeting. The governors present were: Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Willie Obiano (Anambra), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).
