Oil installation attack gets messier as Avengers blow up NNPC, NPDC, Chevron pipelines

Tension grips oil firms in Niger Delta as Avengers renew threat

Niger Delta Avengers, an oil installations ravaging militant group in the oil rich region, on Monday night blew up two Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), trunk lines in Batan Community, Warri South West council area of Delta State

Also destroyed Monday night by the group, were two manifolds operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) in the area and an oil well operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited at Makaraba village of Gbaramatu

The attacks were reported to have been carried out at about 10.35pm and 11.20pm.

Meanwhile, the military Tuesday, confirmed the fresh attack on oil facilities as a military officer acknowledged that the attacks happened at about 10:00 pm (2100 GMT) on Monday in the Batan and Makarava areas of Delta State.

The military officer who didn’t want his name mentioned said, “The Monday night attack was an oil well head located at Makarava community, which is being operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited.”

Also confirming the incident, the chairman of the Batan community, Ogugu Dickson added that they were awoken by three blasts at about 10:00 pm Monday Night “and this morning (Tuesday), we sent out the pipeline surveillance team to go and confirm details of the incident.

“From findings by the team, an NPDC manifold was blown up while an NNPC pipeline, which is about 800 metres from the manifold, was also blown up.”

This is coming as the group on Sunday claimed it had sabotaged an NNPC pipeline, two NPDC and two Chevron-operated oil wells in Delta State over the weekend.
