Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, on Saturday, offered automatic employment to the daughter of a former Chairman of the state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), late Comrade Anthony Kaduna Ebiogbodin, who died recently during a scuffle with policemen in Benin City.

Okpebholo who made the announcement when he paid a condolence visit to the widow and family members of the deceased, promised that his administration would work with the police to bring justice to the family of the late Ebiogbodin.

The governor who was accompanied by the acting NLC Chairman in Edo State, Comrade Bernard Joman Egwakhide and other leaders of organized labour and civil society organizations in the state, said that the death of the NLC Chairman was avoidable if only the policemen had conducted themselves well at the checkpoint, where he reportedly collapsed and died following a heated argument.

He also used the visit to announce an automatic employment for the late Ebiogbodin’s first daughter.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Fred Itua, the governor said:

“It is painful that we have lost a soul in this manner, but I will talk to the police about their conduct so that they will behave well and conduct themselves well in the state.

“He is gone. It is painful, but that is life, as we all will die one day. I feel sad over the circumstances surrounding his death, but he is gone. No man knows who is next,” the governor concluded.
