Olympics: U-23 Eagles know opponents April 14, seeded in pot 2
African Under-23 champions, Nigeria would know their opponents on April 14 after being seeded in the second pot for the draws of the men’s football event of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The seeding was done based on a cumulative matrix of how each country has performed in the football event in the last five editions.
Hosts Brazil are in Pot 1 alongside Mexico, Japan, and Argentina.
The U-23 Eagles have Korea Republic, Honduras and Iraq in pot 2.
FIFA also seeded Africa’s representatives, South Africa in Pot 3 while Algeria is in Pot 4.

“All 28 slots at the Olympic Football Tournaments Rio 2016 have now been filled and the nations involved are surely waiting with baited breath for the draw, to be held at the Maracanã on 14 April 2016 at 10:30am local time (3:30pm CET).
“Hosts Brazil will take the lead spot in Group A (men’s tournament) and Group E (women’s tournament), with the men’s teams allocated into four pots based on a ranking taking into account performances at the past five Olympic Football Tournaments,” a statement from FIFA read on Friday.
The draws proper will come up on Thursday, April 14, 2016, which will see the teams divided into four groups of four.
The Olympic football tournament starts on August 3.
Pot 1. Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Japan
Pot 2. Nigeria, Korea Republic, Honduras, Iraq
Pot 3. Sweden, Fiji, Portugal, South Africa
Pot 4. Algeria, Colombia, Denmark, Germany
