Deputy Senate President (DSP) of the 9th National Assembly, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has been condemned by some Nigerians for kneeling to greet President Muhammadu Buhari.
A photo trending on social media had shown the Delta central senator on Tuesday after emerging DSP kneeling to appreciate Buhari, while the new Senate President, Ahmed Lawan who was with him, watched standing.
Reacting to the development, Reno Omokri, a former aide of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, and some other Nigerians condemned the act in a post on their Twitter handles.
Omokri wrote, “When we have a Deputy Senate President KNEELING DOWN to greet @MBuhari, how can we expect the 9th National Assembly to STAND UP to him? The Legislature was created to CHECK the Executive, not to BOW to them. Kneel to God and parents only. Very sad!”
Also, Lere Olayinka, media aide to Ekiti State former governor, Ayodele Fayose, also said in a tweet, “After getting rewarded with the position of Deputy Senate President for STEALING Mace, Senator Omo-Agege went to thank @MBuhari by KNEELING before him.
“If na you nko? You no go even roll on the floor to greet a man who rewarded you for committing crime for him?”
Another Twitter user, Sarkin Kano, worte on the matter, “Omo-Agege kneeling to greet @Mbuhari; this is the servitude that this slave master from Daura was expecting from Saraki. Thank you Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki @bukolasaraki for standing on your two feet and depend democracy as all free elected person must especially legislators.”
Omo-Agege was alleged to have brought in the thieves that stole the Senate Mace last year while the lawmakers were sitting.
