Omokri mocks Buhari for praising ex-President Jonathan

Reno Omokri has taunted President Muhammadu Buhari for praising his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan.

He expressed surprise that the incumbent President after all his insults and blames in the past could now be saying something good about the former leader.

He described Buhari as being desperate and that he was only praising Jonathan because elections are around the corner.

Buhari had on Thursday night when he hosted members of the Kannywood entertainment industry to a dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja praised Jonathan for peacefully handing over in 2015.

Buhari made history in Nigerian politics in 2015, being the first opposition candidate to win a presidential election as well as the first to defeat an incumbent president.

Jonathan, despite concerns expressed by some of the chieftains of then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accepted defeat and peacefully handed over power to Buhari.

However, the Presidency has constantly blamed the administration of Jonathan for the worsening poor situation Nigeria and its citizens have continued to suffer.

But Buhari said on Thursday, “I’ll continue to hold former president Jonathan in high esteem as a result of that singular act. He (Jonathan) was in power as deputy governor, governor (Bayelsa), Vice-President and President, all for about 10 years and he voluntarily accepted defeat and surrendered power to me,” Buhari he said.

But responding in a post in his Twitter handle Omokri said, “After insulting and blaming ex President @GEJonathan for three and a half years, a desperate Muhammadu @MBuhari has started to praise him now that elections are around the corner. Who would have ever believe that any good thing about GEJ would come from PMB’s mouth? #RenosDarts.”

Also responding to Buhari hosting of members of Kannywood entertainment industry, Omokri said, “On July 25, 2016, President @MBuhari scrapped the Kano Film Village that ex President Jonathan initiated to provide jobs, claiming it is ‘un-Islamic’. Now elections are around the corner, the same Buhari is hosting Kannywood movie stars. Vote for Buhari at your peril #RenosDarts”
