Onazi, Simon, Samuel, others paint Europe with goals

It was a weekend of goals galore as Nigeria players shone brightly for their respective clubs across Europe and America.

Super Eagles striker, Aaron Samuel, scored his first goal for his new Russian Premier League side, CSKA Moscow, as they secured a vital point in the 1-1 derby draw with Lokomotiv on Saturday. Moses Simon and Obinna Nsofor were also on target for their respective clubs in Europe at the weekend.

The 21-year-old, who wears jersey number 99 starred for the Krasno-sinie scored an 84th minute equalizer to help the Capital based club maintain lean lead over second place Zenit. He was also booked in the 57th minute.

Nsofor ended a six-month goals’ drought in style as he scored the winner for his German Bundesliga two side Duisburg in a 2-1 win over 1860 Munich. The Jos-born forward scored on the 85th minute.

His last goal was a 3-2 loss at Union Berlin on September 26, 2015.

At Providence Park, Fanendo Adi came off the bench in the 63rd minute to score a brace for Portland Timbers in their 3-1 win over San Jose Earthquakes.

The Super Eagles invitee got on the score sheet in the 65th minute and ninth minute of stoppage time, the 11th brace he has netted since his arrival in America from Denmark.

Hapoel Beer Sheva’s Nigerian imports, John Ogu and Anthony Nwakaeme, hogged the headlines in the Israeli Ligat Ha’Al Champions playoff against Bnei Sakhin on Saturday.

Ogu and Nwakaeme scored for Beer Sheva as they defeated Bnei Sakhin 4-1 as the Israeli league champions group playoff kicked off.
