Ondo 2016: Surprise as Akeredolu emerges APC guber candidate

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu has emerged the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the November governorship election in Ondo State.

 

Akeredolu, a former President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA and governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN in the 2012, beat 21 other aspirants.

 

His election came as a surprise to many as he also beat Dr. Segun Abraham, who was widely reported to have the blessings on leaders of the party, including one of the very prominent national leaders.

 

Akeredolu scored 669 votes while he was closely followed by Abraham, who scored 635 votes. Chief Olusola Oke came third with 583 votes and Senator Ajayi Boroffice fourth with 471 votes.

 

The Governor of Jigawa State, Muhammed Abubakar, chairman the electoral committee, said total of 2,744 voters were accredited.

The exercise, with tight security provided by the police, Nigerian Army and Civil Defence was almost marred due to an altercation between the police and men of the Civil Defence.

 

Similarly, the Labour Party (LP) in Ondo State also on Saturday, unanimously elected Mr. Stephen Adeuti, an economist, as its governorship candidate for the state’s November 26 election.

 

Adeuti was elected unopposed after his only challenger, Olugbenga Ojo stepped down from the contest.
