ONDO: 700 medical students face withdrawal over inability to pay tuition fees

At least 700 students of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State are on the brink of dropping out of school over non payment of school fees.

The students who include those in the final year have been threatened to face “irreversible consequences” from the University authority.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Friday Okonofua, gave this warning at the fourth matriculation ceremony of the institution.

He noted that 51 of the students who gained admission into the institution dud not take part in the matriculation over inability to pay their school fees.

At the matriculation ceremony, a total of 550 new students were incorporated into the university.

Okonofua appealed to parents to pay their children’s school fees of risk expulsion from the University.

He said, “Today, 700 students at various levels in the university have refused to pay their school fees. At the last count, all students in the final year class that would be graduating next year have refused to pay their fees, yet they purport to be taking lectures.

“Parents should know that their children and wards will suffer irreversible consequences, if they fail to pay their school fees because they will not be allowed to receive lectures nor sit for examinations. The university runs largely on the school fees paid by its students. Therefore, failure to pay is a very serious offence that we will not take lightly”, he stated.
