Ondo boils as more protests greet Jimoh's candidature in PDP

Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) protest against the candidature of Jimoh Ibrahim appears to be climaxing as the state House of Assembly members, party chieftains on Saturday joined the outcry.

Since the substitution of Mr Eyitayo Jegede’s name with that of Ibrahim as the governorship candidate of the PDP in the November 26 election in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday, Ondo State has continued to boil in protest.

The outcry which stated on Friday in the major towns of Akure, Owo, Ondo, Ikare, Isua and Ilaje, continued on Saturday in Akure the state capital with hundreds of chieftains and members of Ahmed Makarfi’s faction of the party joining in.

The protesters on Saturday led by the Chairman of Makarfi faction of the party, Mr. Clement Faboyede, vowed that Ibrahim would never be the candidate of the party.

Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mrs. Jumoke Akindele, who earlier addressed journalists on behalf of the PDP members in the Assembly, maintained that Jegede was the candidate of the PDP.

“We know our people gave their mandate to Jegede, injustice is currently working in our land and the transverse of justice must not stand. Jimoh Ibrahim is not known to the party. We condemn the advance of political fraud, such injustice cannot stand. We stand to say no, the position of law is clear on this matter. President Buhari should not let injustice disrupt his government.

“We want to use this opportunity to appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow democracy in Ondo State to be derailed. Ondo State is historically a political sensitive state as the citizenry, conscious of their rights would not allow any external force to elect or impose any governorship candidate on them.”
