Five rape suspects identified as Bode Akinsiku, Femi Olabanji, Abiodun Ayodele, Wahab Fadairo and Adebayo Adedayo have all been docked on the orders of a Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ondo town, Ondo State.

The order was made by the Chief Magistrate of the court, Mrs. B.F. Ajibade, after the arrest of the men who allegedly raped two teenage girls last week on Kogbona Street in the ancient town.

Arraigned on a six counts charge of conspiracy, rape, defamation of character and torture, the suspects who were nabbed by men of the Ondo State Police Command were also said to have videotaped how they raped their victims and posted their nude pictures on social media.

According to the prosecutor, Mr. Bernard Olagbayi, the offences committed by the suspects“are contrary to and punishable under sections 516, 351, 360, 367, 359 and 375 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Law of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”

Counsel for the accused, Mr. Adesanmi Olanrewaju, Mr. O.A. Akinbinu and Mr. A.J. Akindele, however urged the court to grant the accused bail in liberal terms but the counsel for the victims, Mills Orlu, opposed the bail applications by the counsel for the accused.

Before adjourning the case till June 21, 2018, the Chief Magistrate declined bail to the accused who all pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

Mrs. B.F. Ajibade also ruled that the five men should be remanded in prison.
