ONDO: Court sentences man to death for robbery, rape

Unless a miracle happens, a man identified as Aturoti Adeleke, will die by hanging after he was sentenced to death by a high court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Justice S.A. Bola sentenced the accused, Adeleke who was found guilty of robbing mostly women and raping them afterwards.

The convict who pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled before him committed the offenses in May last year at Olorunsogo, Adesula and Ademulegun areas in Ondo town according to the prosecutor.

According to witnesses who testified in court, Adeleke usually robs and rapes his victims at gunpoint even as one of the witnesses claimed that she saw the convict a day after she was robbed and raped, adding that she quickly informed policemen at Fagun Police Station, who later arrested him.

Another, claimed she recognised Adeleke because he once lived in the same house with the convict and her mother even catered for him.

After listening to the claims by the witnesses, Justice Bola said the testimonies of the complainants were consistent and it was established beyond reasonable doubt that Adeleke is guilty as accused.

“The law provides that rape attracts life imprisonment, while armed robbery attracts a death sentence,” Justice Bola said with a word of finality.

Nigeria’s law is only effective on low class people, what about senior officers who are stealing so much without considering their positions? Shame on us in this country.

If truly the law provides that rape attracts life imprisonment, while armed robbery attracts a death sentence, many government officials stealing public funds are supposed to be dead by now, but how many of them have been sentenced to death? None!

Those people stealing public funds are above the law, there’s nothing anyone can do to them.

That Justice Bola is a fool. Am sure she is a woman that’s why she put sentiment into the judgement. How many politicians have they sentenced to death or is embezzlement of public fund not grave than armed robbery

Keep shut your mouth. I don’t expect a lady like you to condemn the judge, I pray you won’t fall victim of armed robbery and rape, then you will know how huge is the damage.
