Ondo First Lady hires experts to teach girls Taekwondo to fight off rapists

Girls in Ondo state are now expected to defend themselves against rapists as the state governor’s wife; Mrs Betty Akeredolu has employed the services of Taekwondo experts to train them.

This was revealed on Friday by the governor’s wife while delivering a letter to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Undie Adie in an expression of her displeasure about the rising rape cases in the state.

The governor’s wife was on the visit to Adie’s office over the rape of a student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, by soldiers at the Ikare/Akungba road checking recently.

Mrs Akeredolu while reacting to the student’s case, vowed to ensure that the case is not buried under until the culprits are brought to book.

She, however, pleaded with the police to ensure that the perpetrators were treated as criminals with prosecution.

Going further, she lamented that “soldiers are supposed to be protectors of civilians, but this incidence has proven that Ondo women are not safe with anyone, hence, the need to equip them with Taekwondo skills for self-defence”.

She noted that if the case of a soldier in army uniform raping a woman was brought to the fore and perpetrators made to face the full wrath of the law, it would serve as a deterrent to others.

While responding, the CP assured her that the case would be treated with all seriousness, adding that the Police have not been taking the issue of rape lightly.

Adie, however, assured that as soon as the Army Commander transferred the suspects to his command, they would be charged to court immediately.
