The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Elela Monday, for allegedly murdering his 14-year-old son, Tope Elela, over claims of involvement in criminal activities. The incident occurred in Ajowa Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilfred Afolabi, the suspect buried the boy in a shallow grave under a banana tree behind his house.

Detailing the case, Afolabi said, “On the 30th of December, the police received an anonymous call that one Elela Monday living in Ajowa Akoko killed his 14-year-old son named Tope Elela and buried him in a shallow grave under a banana tree behind his house.

“The suspect was arrested, and during interrogation, he said the boy was always involved in criminal activities and was embarrassing him. So, in order to put a stop to the disgrace, he and his wife decided to kill the boy.”

The police command has launched an investigation into the incident, with the suspect facing charges of murder and conspiracy.

In a separate development, the Commissioner of Police also provided an update on the recent cult clash in Owo town, which led to the deaths of four individuals. He confirmed that 25 suspects had been apprehended in connection with the violence.

“We have arrested 25 individuals in connection with the recent crisis in Owo. Some of the suspects have been identified as having direct involvement in the criminal activities. One Olamide Ogunseyila, 28 years old, confessed to being a member of a cult group,” Afolabi disclosed.

The commissioner added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects, including Steven Dada, also known as “Ogodo,” who is believed to be a key figure in the violence.

“The remaining suspects are currently undergoing thorough interrogation to ascertain their roles in the crisis while the command is intensifying efforts to apprehend Steven Dada and any other individual connected to these criminal activities,” he stated.

The new police commissioner, who has pledged unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

“Collaboration with the public is essential to ensuring peace and security. We encourage residents to report anything unusual to the police to help us combat crime effectively,” Afolabi concluded.

The Ondo State Police Command continues its efforts to address violence and crime in the state, promising swift action against offenders.
