After one day of staying off work, tanker drivers suspend strike

Petroleum Tankers Drivers (PTD), a branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural gas Workers, (NUPENG) has suspended its strike action after one day of expressing its grievance by staying off work.

The group suspended the strike action to give room for further dialogue with the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

PTD decision to resume work just after one day of its strike action was sequel to a meeting in Abuja, called at the instance of the NNPC group managing director, Mr. Maikanti Baru.

Meanwhile, there are claims in some quarters that the Federal Government has begun the process of hiking the prices of petroleum products and may likely sell the product between N147 and N150 per litre.

The federal government’s decision to increase the price of petroleum product as learnt was tinkered on during the meeting with the tanker drivers as a means to satisfy PTD’s demand for an increase in transporters’ margins.

National President of NUPENG, Igwe Achese, who spoke on the suspension, said it was necessary in the interest of the country as well as to give room for further negotiations and discussions.

Strike actions are definitely not the best way to express an organization’s grievances. For many years, it has not worked for Nigerians, yet we always quickly embark on strike hoping that things will change.

It’s true strike actions have never resolve any issue in Nigeria, but our government is stubborn and won’t take workers seriously until they embark on strike to show they they are serious about requests

That was not needful of at all. They should not have even gone for a day strike, although I understand them. They just needed a day holiday. Lol

That one day warning strike has passed a message to the government and am sure they will attend to the needs of these drivers soon. The only language that government understand in Nigeria is strike action.

When goods and commodities are still very expensive, They think the best compliment is to hike fuel price? When will we stop suffering in the hands of our leaders?

The suffering will not stop until we all decide to join hands together to put an end to it, but, it seems we Nigerians are still enjoying poverty.

No one is enjoying poverty but the Problem is who will come out first to make a move so that others can follow

A day is coming in Nigeria where strike action will no longer have a room again and where government will be responsive to all needs of every individual. It’s a prophecy and we will get there.
