One dead, as Train rams into cars, traders in Enugu
An oncoming train which did not blare its horns to alert other road users caused a carnage when it rammed into buses and traders at the popular Ogbete Main Market, Enugu, killing a middle-aged man identified only as Ikechukwu.
According to reports, several others were left with various degrees of injuries following the incident and a  tricycle rider at the Zik Avenue intersection was almost crushed by the oncoming train before getting to the Ogbete Market, where it killed one, an eyewitness said.
Describing the incident as horrible when contacted, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the case, wondered why the train driver was moving at top speed without blaring his horn.
Recounting the incident, one of the vehicle drivers who narrowly escaped death from the train which was returning from Port Harcourt, Rivers State said; “God saved us because what the man driving the train planned was to massacre people and set the whole place on fire. If not for God, who moved the vehicles out miraculously, we all would have perished.”
In his account, another eyewitness Mr. Lawrence Eze, a businessman at Ogbete Market, accused the train driver of moving too fast; “The train man always drives recklessly and he does not like to sound his horn, until he is close to the level crossing.”
