One killed, several others injured as PDP thugs disrupt APC rally in Bayelsa

A rally organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Bayelsa West, Captain Karimu on Saturday turned bloody as one person was left dead while several others sustained injury.

The campaign rally held in Tungbobiri community of Sagbama Local Government Area of the state was reportedly disrupted by thugs believed to be members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a retaliation attack.

An APC member identified as Brave Embikoro was reportedly killed while sixteen others sustained different forms of injury.

Confirming the incident, the secretary of the APC, Alabo Martin said the senatorial candidate had sometime ago gone to the community with a similar attack allegedly launched on the party members.

He said, “A party member was killed in Bayelsa West senatorial Campaign today in Tungbo Abiri in Sagbama local government area of the state.

“Cars were destroyed, sound system and canopies were vandalised. Three party faithful were shot. Presently one out of the three, is confirmed dead.

“We use this medium to appeal to the general public for urgent intervention and to rescue our supporters from further attacks by thugs”.

The spokesperson of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, said One person had been arrested in connection to the crime.

He said: “On 2nd February, 2019, at about 1530hours, thugs disrupted APC campaign rally at Tungbabiri, Sagbama Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

“The thugs numbering about 15 disrupted and attacked APC party faithfuls at a Political rally at Tungbabiri. In the ensuing melee, one Braye Embikorobiri of Tungbabiri Community sustained critical injuries and later died. Two other victims, names yet unknown were critically injured and are responding to treatment in the hospital.

“One suspect, Isaac Abrowei ‘m’ 42 years, from Bolou-Orua, but resident at Tungbabiri has been arrested, the thugs who master mind the act and their alledge sponsor have been identified and the Police has launched a manhunt to arrest them.

“The command has mobilize officers to restore normalcy in the community and efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects”.
