One of the two suspected Yahoo hackers worked with Russian bank, reports say

According to reports coming in from Russia, one of the two hackers accused by the US Justice Department of allegedly accessing millions of Yahoo user accounts through spam campaign worked with a bank in Russia.

Igor Sushchin worked at an investment bank owned by billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, who also owns the Brooklyn Nets basketball team.

Sushchin reportedly worked as a security director and his employment was ended on Thursday, the day after the U.S. Justice Department announced its case.

Sushchin and Dmitry Dokuchaev have been indicted over a massive cyber-attack affecting 500 million Yahoo users described as one of the largest online attacks in history, carried out in 2014.

The two officers “protected, directed, facilitated and paid criminal hackers to collect information through computer intrusions in the United States and elsewhere”, acting Assistant Attorney-General Mary McCord told reporters.

They hired Alexsey Belan and Karim Baratov, described as “criminal hackers”, to carry out the attacks.
