National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Uche Secondus has described as unfortunate, the fire outbreak at the popular Ochanja market in Onitsha, Anambra State.

There was a fire outbreak on Wednesday as a petrol laden tanker had lost control and exploded after ramming into buildings in the Upper Iweka axis of the city.

The PDP chairman who regretted the incident that led to the destruction of many residential and commercial buildings, called for a review of the technique employed by the country’s emergency agencies.

He said, “The nation’s fire service and other relevant security and emergency agencies need to review their techniques and strategies so as to proactively prevent wastages and needless loss of innocent lives from such disasters.”

In a statement on Friday, Secondus said his, “heart and that of other well-meaning Nigerians are with the traders and the families of those who lost their beloved ones and properties in the inferno.”

He urged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, the Anambra state government and other organizations to take quick stems to assist the victims by sending relief materials inform of compensations and soft loans to cushion the effect of the destruction on the traders.

The PDP chairman charged all relevant authorities within and outside the State to ensure that the cause of the fire is ascertained with a view to averting any future occurrence.
