Only God Knows when Leah Sharibu will be set free – Buhari's spokesman

Nobody, not even President Muhammadu Buhari has an answer as to when the only remaining Dapchi schoolgirl in captivity of Boko Haram, Leah Sharibu will return home, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has said.

He said that the answer to when Sharibu, who was allegedly kept back in captivity because of her refusal to denounce her Christian faith for Islam, will be set free is only known by God.

Adesina made this known on Tuesday when he appeared on Channels Television‘s breakfast show, Sunrise Daily. He meanwhile, noted that the Federal Government is doing everything possible to make sure the girl regained freedom.

Responding to a question on when Sharibu is possibly going to come back, Adesina said, “That question can only be answered by God, but I believe that God is interested in that young girl. The government is working on and at it, and we believe she will be back”.

The question of when young Sharibu is going to be freed became a major national issue again after an audio recording said to be her voice was exclusively obtained and published by online news organisation, TheCable.

She had in the said audio record prayed President Buhari to help her regain freedom and to assist her family.

Assuring that the call for her by Sharibu will not be in vain, Adesina said, “Early in the life of this administration, the President said that whatever it will take to bring back the Chibok girls back he will do including paying. The President is on record for having said that.”

The Presidency had also soon after the release of the audio said that it was aware of it, saying that the Department of State Services (DSS) is investigating it.

Boko Haram had in February this year abducted over 100 students of Government Girls Secondary School, Dapchi in Yobe State.

The girls were weeks later freed excepting Leah Sharibu, who was the only Christian girl and allegedly kept in captivity by the terrorists for refusing to renounce her faith.
