There are reports that the National Judicial Council (NJC) will Monday hold an emergency meeting over the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, by President Muhammadu Buhari, following an order by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

It is learnt that neither the suspended CJN nor the acting CJN, Tanko Mohammed, would be allowed to preside over the emergency meeting.

The country has been thrown into a legal and political storm following the controversial suspension of the CJN.

Legal opinions have been wide-ranging and varied, while concerned watchers both within and outside the country have called for caution.

Many believe that the NJC, which has been unable to sit since the onset of the crisis, may have the ultimate solution to the seeming logjam.
