Determined to wear the crown despite the unease that they say usually lies on the head that wears it, the Giesi ruling house has presented a candidate for the vacant stool of Ooni of Ife.

He is Adeyeye Ogunwusi from Ojaja Unit of the ruling house and was presented on Wednesday.

“When there is vacancy in respect of the Ooni stool, it is mandatory, based on the fact of rotation, that the ruling house that is in turn would fill the vacant stool,’’ said the spokesperson of the Ojaja Unit of the family, Olalekan Ijiyode, at a press conference in Ile-Ife.

In a veiled reference to the controversies generated over which of the four ruling houses ought to mount the throne, Ijiyode said the other ruling houses were all aware that the next Ooni should come from Giesi ruling house.

He said Ogunwusi was a competent, generous, noble, experienced person fit and eligible for the throne.

He said though the Giesi ruling house was made up of six units which included Ojaja, Lugba, agbedegbede, Deboye Moliki and Wanikin but there was no cause for alarm as to who would the thone.

He added that the other three ruling houses of Osinkola, Ogboru, and Lafogido had all assumed the Ooni stool since 1894, stressing that it would be wrong to contest the turn of Giesi ruling house..
