OPC warns Boko Haram escapees to stay away from S’West

The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has hailed the Department of State Services (DSS) for its vigilance, which led to the arrest of suspected Boko Haram members in Lagos State.

The group also warned escaping members of the sect and other criminal elements in the South West and other states with OPC presence that they would not be allowed to fester.

These were contained in a statement on Sunday by the National Coordinator of the OPC, Otunba Gani Adams.

The DSS had on Tuesday said it arrested four Boko Haram members in Lagos. The secret service said the Boko Haram members, who fled from Borno State, were arrested in Oko Oba area of Lagos State.

Commenting on the development, Adams said his group was on the alert to combat any untoward development or atrocity by Boko Haram members, adding: “This is also to warn those who are out to cause division within the rank of the Yoruba speaking people of the South West and North Central States that their antics would be resisted.

Adams called for vigilance among Yoruba speaking people so as not to allow “the enemies infiltrate to wreak havoc”.

The OPC also in a related development condemned the wanton killing of unarmed and innocent Nigerian citizens in southern Kaduna, in Kaduna State by alleged Fulani Militia.

The group in a communiqué issued after a marathon meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC), which is the highest decision making organ of the congress, held in Lagos State, unanimously applauded the meeting initiated by governors of the states in the south west of Nigeria, held in Ibadan, Oyo State on the 22nd day of November, 2016.

“We urge them to take urgent steps towards regional integration of the south west and Yoruba unity.

“We appeal to our Royal fathers who are the custodian of Yoruba Culture and heritage to urgently take steps towards the preservation of our common heritage, Yoruba language and foster unity amongst all Yoruba both within Nigeria and in the Diaspora”, the OPC stated.
