Chinese software developer, Opera, has launched a new platform, Oleads for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria.
The platform which has over 3,000 businesses on its radar, did not disclose if Oleads is a marketplace or a classified advert platform.
Oleads is not the first platform to venture into this space as the likes of Vconnect, Jumia, Jiji already have their market shares in this segment.
Opera like other Chinese businesses, ventures into existing or growing space and dominate it.
A typical example is the Oride that has dominated the motorcycle hailing space after brushing aside competition from Gokada and Max Okada.
Opera’s Ofood has also been positioned to dominate the food logistics business, where Jumia logistics is the undisputed king.
Whether it will dominate the classified advert space is still unknown.
Ripples Nigeria gathered that Vconnect generates $15 million annually from its business directory and marketplace platform while Jiji boasts of seven million users per month.
Jiji, which is currently the space leader after acquiring OLX, is not ready to relinquish market leadership and this means the competition will get even stiffer.
