Nigerian Police anti-banditry, kidnapping and other crime fighting team, code named Operation puff Adder, has been launched in Edo State.

The exercise which had earlier been launched in states of Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna, Kogi and some others, was launched in Edo on Thursday by the state Police Command.

Speaking during the inauguration of the exercise in Benin, the state commissioner of Police, DanMallam Muhammed, explained that operation Puff Adder was launched in the state in obedience to the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Adamu.

Muhammed said “Operation puff Adder is based on the principle of community policing, intelligence led policing, synergy with other security agencies, convoy/motorised patrols, stop and search operation among others.”

He expressed optimism that the operation will help checkmate activities of criminal minded elements in the state and their sponsors.

According to him, Edo as the gateway to both the Southern and Northern part of the country, there is high social activities in the state, which tells why there is upsurge of criminal vices like cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery among others in the state.

In his speech at the event, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5 headquarters, Benin, Dibal Yakadi, said there has been upsurge in heinous crimes after the 2019 general elections as a result of proliferation of light weapon in the hand of some unscrupulous elements.
