Orodata Science, Africa Hub, kick off Phase 2 of data collection Initiative in Nigeria’s PHCs

A civic Technology Organization, Orodata and Africa Data Hub, are set to embark on the second phase of a data collection initiative in Nigeria’s Primary Healthcare Centre, covering over 1,500 PHCs.

This new phase will include data collection from more than 1,000 additional PHCs across 10 new states, bringing the total number of surveyed PHCs to over 1,500.

The second phase will focus on PHCs in Ogun, Edo, the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), Kwara, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Abia, Kano, Kaduna, and Gombe States. This project follows earlier efforts in Anambra, Benue, Cross River, Osun, Sokoto, and Taraba States.

The Program Officer at Orodata Science, Uche Oti explained that the project aims to, “Evaluate the availability and quality of primary healthcare centers (PHCs) services; Assess the condition of facilities and infrastructure; Identify resource constraints and gaps in service deliver; Provide essential insights for policymakers and healthcare stakeholders to improve healthcare services.”

He also said that the access to a quality healthcare is a fundamental human right.

The data collected will drive the development of comprehensive reports, and interactive visualisations, and support advocacy initiatives aimed at strengthening health systems.

Additionally, this information will be made publicly available through checkmyphc.org, a newly launched platform designed to empower Nigerians with real-time data on the status of PHCs in their communities.
