Governor of Benue State, Sam Ortom has lashed out at a statement made by a group known as Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, which gave the Federal government a 30-day ultimatum to implement Ruga policy across Nigeria as earlier proposed.

According to Governor Ortom in a statement issued on Friday, the comments by the group were inflammatory and capable of causing discord and anarchy across the country.

Governor Ortom in the statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase said; “the act of the Coalition poses a real threat to the country’s unity and deserves to be tackled urgently. The Coalition is not an alternative government and therefore has no right to issue such a warning.”

He also added that, “if the government introduces a programme but later decides to suspend it in the larger interest of Nigeria, groups under whichever appellation have no constitutional powers to coerce it to rescind the decision.”

The Governor however noted that, “once again commends President Muhammadu Buhari for suspending the Ruga settlements plan,” a move he said is in the right direction.
