Oshiomhole using bogus security challenge to loot Edo -PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Edo State chapter has accused the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole of looting the resources of the state under the pretense of security challenges.

State chairman of the party, Dan Orbih, while addressing a media conference in Benin, the Edo state capital, alleged that while Oshiomhole was accusing a former minister of stealing about $6 billion, he was equally siphoning the state’s resources.

Borrowing the words of Governor Oshiomhole, Orbih said, “Unprecedented primitive looting of the treasury is taking place in Edo State”.

While lamenting that Edo State reeks of corruption, the PDP state chairman alleged, that state governor had approved and withdrawn various sums of money running into billions in the guise of security challenges.

According to him, in December 2014, the governor approved and withdrew N100 million each on the 1st, 5th, 9th, 12th,19th, 22nd and 24th for tackling security challenges, but used for other purposes since there was no security challenge in the state that year.

Orbih also said, “We have gone to the extent of going to the police headquarters in Abuja. And we have a police report that shows clearly there have been no security challenges as far as Edo state in concerned.

“We have also taken pains to calculate the money taken so far, and it is sad and painful to disclose that to date Governor Adams Oshiomhole has spent well over N42 billion for undisclosed security challenges”

While displaying documents he said contained details of illicit financial transactions of the state government, Orbih noted that “It is time for those who are ready to fight corruption to start with Edo State”.

He reiterated his call on the EFCC to probe the government of Edo State, adding, that the party will institute legal action against government officials who misuse Edo common wealth.

He said they had provided relevant documents to the EFCC, and hope the body will swing into action very soon to curb the looting in the state.
