Buhari and Oshiomhole

As Nigerians await the cabinet reshuffle by President Muhammadu Buhari, the immediate past governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Tuesday visited the President at the presidential Villa Abuja.

There are speculations that the move may not be unconnected with Buhari’s efforts at stream lining his choices in the expected cabinet list.

The presidency had late last year informed the Senate of its intention to carry out a cabinet shake-up that may affect no fewer than 10 ministers in the federal cabinet early this year.

Significantly, President Buhari had three days to Oshiomhole leaving office, while commissioning some projects executed by the former Edo State governor, praised Oshiomhole’s achievements and called on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to engage him at the national level for further service delivery.

Buhari had said then, “It will be a pity to waste his energy by him retiring. I hope there will be a higher assignment for him to do more for the nation. I congratulate the governor for his hard work; Oshiomhole is a hard working governor. We will need his services in Abuja.

“You have served two terms and you are about to leave. You deserve a place in history. I hope the APC will look for a place for you because your service for the country is far from over.”

However, Oshiomhole who met behind closed doors with the president on Tuesday at Aso Villa, when asked by State House correspondents if his visit was possibly for an appointment as a Minister, said he was at the villa to wish the president happy birthday and nothing more.

Speaking further on his mission to the Villa, Oshiomhole said that he was at the nation’s seat of power to formally appreciate the President for coming three days to his departure to commission some signature projects executed by his administration.
