Oshiomhole’s driver held for attempted theft

A driver attached to the convoy of Governor Adams Oshiomhole has been arested and detained for allegedly attempting to burgle the account section of the Edo State Government House.

Ripples gathered that the accused had attempted to break into the vault on Friday night but was stopped in his track by eagle-eyed security operatives after they saw someone cutting off protectors in the account office.

The source said the driver escaped but was identified by the security men who apprehended him.

It was gathered that he is currently being questioned at the Aideyan Police Station in Benin.

“Policemen were going on routine duty and noticed somebody attempting to break into the account office and foiled the attempt. I am very proud of my men. A discreet investigation will be carried out to ascertain whether the driver acted alone or in concert with others,” the source, a senior police officer said.

Contacted, Edo State Police Command spokesman, DSP Stephen Onwuchei said: “There was a report of such nature” which is “at investigation level.”

The Commissioner of Police, he said, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the investigation.

“As I speak with you, the DC State CID should be in Government House to visit the scene of crime,” Onwuchei said.
