Former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo has revealed how he always encouraged his ex-teammate, Victor Osimhen to work hard and give his best to the national team.

Ighalo, who recently retired from the team, emerged as top goalscorer in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) – both in the qualifiers and in the competition proper.

Osimhen has scored four goals for the Super Eagles in his last four appearances, and has been receiving praises for his performances from all quarters.

The Lille of France forward scored a brace and made two assists for the three-time African champions in their 2021 AFCON qualifier 4-2 victory against Lesotho last Sunday.

“I always told him that he has everything it takes to lead this attack, but it all depends on him,” Ighalo told ESPN after the game against Lesotho.

“I told him he has to keep working hard, stay humble and always be ready to learn, and above all not to get carried away with success or hype but just to keep improving.”

“Congratulations brother, keep the fire burning,” Ighalo also wrote on Instagram after the game.
