Osimhen to stay on at Napoli as Chelsea deadline-day move fails

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen will now remain at Serie A club Napoli after he failed to secure a move to Chelsea on deadline day.

The European summer transfer window came to a close by 23:00 on Friday and it was expected that before the end of the day, Osimhen would have sealed a move to Stamford Bridge.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, Italian football transfer expert, Chelsea delegation left Napoli failing to get Osimhen agreement.

Chelsea, according to reports, offered the player a contract worth €155,000-a-week, which is less than he is currently paid at Napoli and the player was unwilling to take the pay-cut.

Meanwhile, Chelsea, who were looking to boost their attack, successfully signed Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on loan until the end of the season.

The deal includes an obligation for Chelsea to sign the England international, 24, for between £20-25m next summer.

In another late move on deadline day, Arsenal secured the services of Raheem Sterling from Chelsea on loan.

The 29-year-old agreed a season-long loan with Mikel Arteta’s side.

But for Osimhen, it is yet to be sure what would become of him as it is clear that the Nigeria international no longer wants to play for Napoli.

With the non-European transfer window open for another few days, Saudi powerhouse, Al-Ahli could yet secure a deal for Osimhen.

Al-Ahli, according to reports, had agreed a deal with Napoli but Osimhen is reluctant to move to the oil rich nation.
