Osinbajo avoids taking sides in Buhari/Tinubu scuffle

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo intelligently refused to be drawn into the silent scuffle between President Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
There had been a cold war between the camps of both leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over claims by Professor John Paden, in his book on Buhari entitled: “Muhammadu Buhari: Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria”.
Paden had claimed in the biography that Osinbajo emerged as Vice President despite pressure against it by the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Tinubu.
His claim has continuously been faulted by many Nigerians including members of the Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who insists that Osinbajo was nominated for the position by Tinubu.
However, the man at the centre of it, Prof. Osinbajo, who has been mute on the subject finally said Wednesdaynight during a Dinner organised in honour of outstanding graduants of the Presidential Amnesty Programme at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that he was actually nominated for the position.
According to him, he was nominated by someone, somewhere, but refused to mention any names.
“I was in a group of young men and women and one of them asked the question how did I become Vice President, I was never a politician or anything like that. So I tried to explain – it is quite simple that someone somewhere has to recommend you. Somebody somewhere has to give you a helping hand, whether to be a Vice President or to be an aircraft pilot or to be an engineer, somebody somewhere has to give you an opportunity and I think that all of you that are here today are the beneficiaries of the opportunities that you have somehow received.
“And this is why this event is so important. I think that it is one way we have to remind ourselves that we are bound as individuals to give opportunities to everyone,” he said.
