Despite power challenges Osinbajo says Nigeria a must for serious investors eyeing Africa

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo during his visit to Bayelsa State on Friday, hammered on the need for the people of the region to resist persuasion from anybody to destroy investment or pollute the region’s environment just to prove a point or to get few benefits.

The visit which witnessed heavy security beefed up with Yenagoa, Bayelsa capital, flooded with armed soldiers, policemen and civil defence personnel, was part of the Acting President’s fact finding tour of the Niger Delta region.

It was in continuation of the negotiation with stakeholders aimed at restoring normalcy in the oil rich region.

Some of the details of his interaction with the people of the region during the visit as stated in Osinbajo’s twitter handle, @ProfOsinbajo, quoted the Acting President to have said, “I have come today on behalf of the President and C-in-C.

“I am here with cabinet colleagues and heads of relevant agencies to propose a new vision, signposting a new era to our people in N-Delta. We must not allow anyone to persuade us to destroy investments, or pollute our environment to prove a point or to get a few benefits.

“That is cutting our nose to spite our face! We must make haste. We must move quickly. Day by day the world is moving away from oil. For many years we heard US, our major oil buyer, developing shale oil, we did nothing. Today America does not buy a drop of oil from us.

“We must focus on how to ensure that people see the benefits of the land’s wealth. This new vision will define the future of the region.”

While Osinbajo has been in the region three times since the inception of this administration, the visit to Bayelsa is the second time Osinbajo is visiting the region to reiterate the readiness and determination of President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the persistent problem in the oil region that has continued to affect the economy of the nation.

His first visit for the sake of peace, which was his second visit to the region, was the recent visit to Delta State.

Osinbajo’s first visited the region when he represented President Muhammadu Buhari during the inauguration of Ogoni clean up, in Rivers State.
