OSUN RERUN: PDP makes first play for Omisore as Saraki visits SDP candidate

Senate President Bukola Saraki Monday met with Iyiola Omisore, governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Osun State governorship election, as the battle to secure his support towards gaining an edge in the rerun election hots up.

The meeting is coming 24 hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the election inconclusive.

In Saraki’s delegation to the SDP candidate were Abiodun Olujimi, a senator from Ekiti State, and Doyin Okupe, director of media of Saraki’s presidential campaign.

In the election results so far, Adeleke polled 254,699, while his closest challenger, Isiaka Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had 254,345 votes, with Omisore scoring 128,049 votes to effectively rule himself out of contention.

INEC fixed Thursday for a rerun election in seven polling units across four local government areas — Orolu, Ife north, Ife south and Osogbo.

As the candidate with Ife as his base, Omisore is understandably being courted as his support will all but guarantee victory in the rerun.
