Otti sacks Abia varsity’s VC, other principal officers
The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved the removal of the Vice Chancellor of the state University, Uturu, Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mr Okey Kanu, announced the VC’s removal while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Umuahia, on Tuesday.
Kanu also announced the appointment of Prof. Ndukwe Okeudo as the university’s new Vice-Chancellor.
A former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Dr. Agwu U. Agwu was appointed as the Pro-Chancellor, Mrs. Catherine Ifejika as Chancellor, Dr. Onwubiko Dike as a member of the university’s Governing Council, and two Deputy Vice Chancellors.

Others include four members of the Senate, two members of the congregation, one member of Convocation, a representative from the State Ministry of Education, and a new bursar.
The commissioner said the appointments followed the recommendations of the Visitation Panel to the university.
He said the panel was put in place to evolve effective strategies for addressing the challenges facing the university.
Kanu described the appointments as the first in the series of reforms that would take place in the university.
The appointments will take effect from November 1.
