Outcry on social media as LASG continues demolition of water front community

The continued destruction of Otodo Gbame, a waterfront community in Lagos state has created an outcry on social media.

Commentators lament the action by the State Government especially with the fact that no alternative settlement has been provided for evicted families.

Reports say as early as 6am Sunday morning, men of the Lagos State Task Force and the police reportedly on the orders of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and the state’s commissioner for environment stormed, Otodo Gbame a riverine community setting houses ablaze as residents scampered for safety.

The invasion of the community has reportedly left at least one person dead while majority of the residents who have no place to go are said to be stranded on the water.

The demolition of Otodo Gbame has seen many Nigerians taking to social media condemning the demolition and even Amnesty International Nigeria joined in tweeting about the incident.
