Outrage over bruising of 13-yr-old girl’s bottom by 3 male teachers

Several users across most social media platforms have expressed their displeasure at a whipping incident  which left the buttocks of a 13-year-old girl badly bruised.
Reports say the girl (names withheld) was caned by three male teachers of her school (St Saviours High School, Ijegun) for attending a birthday shindig with her other classmates.
Twitter was abuzz recently when the picture of the girls bruised backside went viral with calls for authorities to act against the school’s action.
Condemning the corporal punishment, the girls father said it was a criminal act for her daughter to be canned in such a manner that she now needs medical treatment.
“That was when her name was written with others as offenders, who attended the birthday without permission,” her father said.
The girls father said he nearly fainted when his daughter came home crying and showed him her bruised backside.
“I have to tell you that I nearly fainted when I saw the injury. I am a soft person, but that does not mean I don’t punish my children when they do something wrong. But I will only be crazy to cane my child to the extent of inflicting injury on her.
“How can three teachers do that to my child? For attending a birthday? Is that such a crime. Why three teachers would beat her is still a mystery to me.”
The administrator of the school Mr. Isaac Idowu however said that the claims by the girls parents were not true saying more than 70 student stormed a nearby hotel to attend a party with some of them ending up drunk.
“We have the responsibility to keep them safe. When we learnt that the students did not go home straight, we decided to conduct our investigation.
“When they came to school this week Tuesday, we gathered the students who went for the birthday in our hall and held a counseling for them. Then we decided that as punishment, each of them should be given just four strokes of the cane.
“Those who were deeply involved were expelled or suspended indefinitely, while those who were not so involved but went for the party like this girl, were given just one week suspension. Even some of their parents have come here begging us to reverse the suspension, urging us to cane them more instead. She is the only one out of the 70, who had this kind of issue.
“We have shown concern too about the girl’s welfare but the picture of the injury is not the true state of the situation. Of course, it is not true that three teachers beat her. It is not possible. If anything bad happened to any of the students while at the hotel, the parents would have made trouble with us because they did not know they were no longer under our care after the school hours.” Mr. Idowu said.
