There are indications that the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odegie-Oyegun, may perish the idea of seeking for re-election as governors of the party and its National Working Committee (NWC) meet.
The governors, who only about 24 hours ago met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, on Wednesday evening held in a closed-door meeting with the Oyegun-led NWC of the party.
It was learnt that among other things, President Buhari had during the meeting with the governors asked them to support the immediate past governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, as the next national chairman of the party during the party’s forthcoming convention in May.
While there are feelings the governors want to discuss issues of the coming convention with the NWC, speculations are however rife that they will also use the opportunity to ask Oyegun to drop the idea of seeking for re-election and allow Oshiomhole as his successor.
Oyegun, who is yet to officially declare if he would be seeking re-election had on Tuesday, described the story of South-South zone of the APC endorsing Oshiomhole as their candidate as being chidish.
